"The Reiki method is not only for curing illness. Its true purpose is to correct the heart-mind, keep the body fit, and lead a happy life using the spiritual capabilities human beings were endowed with since birth." — Mikao Usui Memorial Stone

About Richard

I live in the Los Angeles area and practice Reiki in a simple traditional style known as Usui Shiki Ryōhō. I learned this folk art from Susan Mitchell, who in turn learned it directly from Hawayo Takata—the woman who brought Reiki to the West.

I have worked in the tech and entertainment industries for many years and first enrolled in a Reiki class seeking to help my wife. But I began treating myself and was surprised to see several chronic health issues quickly resolve, along with other noticeable changes in my life. Years later I continue to treat myself daily and am deeply moved by the evolving impact of this practice on my health and well-being.

I believe keeping this tradition unchanged as it was taught to me is essential in preserving it for future generations; I aim to share it in this unaltered form.

What is Reiki?

Reiki ("RAY-kee") is a healing art developed in Japan more than a century ago by a man named Mikao Usui. It has no religious affiliation, doctrine, or need for belief to be effective.

Our bodies carry an innate capacity to heal. Reiki is a practice that uses gentle touch to support this natural healing process and promote balance in every aspect of our being.

Though it remains a folk art and spiritual practice, practitioners are now found in hospitals, hospice programs, and medical settings worldwide.

Usui Shiki Ryōhō

While many forms of Reiki exist today, the tradition I practice has been passed through the lineage of Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, Hawayo Takata, Phyllis Lei Furumoto, and Johannes Reindl. I was taught by Susan Mitchell—a student of Hawayo Takata and Phyllis Lei Furumoto.

This specific form of practice is known as Usui Shiki Ryōhō, which Hawayo Takata termed in English the Usui System of Natural Healing.

Treatments

Treatments are given fully clothed, typically lying down. I offer them at my home in the Los Angeles area, and also travel locally in Southern California. A form of distant treatment is also available for those located anywhere. Booking and pricing are available upon request.
